Keeping kids busy can be challenging, so we were pleasantly surprised when we discovered the JCPenney Kids Zone. Each month, JCPenney turns a section of the children’s department into an arts and crafts zone offering free crafts for kids. Families can spend time reconnecting while making something together.
Free Crafts For Kids
The best part of the Jc Penney Kids Zone is the cost. It is completely free. Not many family-friendly activities come with no cost, so this is well worth the time. Each kit comes with everything needed to make one project, and the supplies are of very good quality. My daughter still uses the past projects she has made. The projects can be completed in the store, or you can take them home to complete them later.
All Ages Can Participate
Since each craft is pre-cut and non-messy, everyone can participate, and parents don’t need to worry about their kids’ hands and clothes. Most of the projects use stickers or fasteners, and they all come with simple instructions, some with pictures. If you have ever made project kits from Dollar Tree, these are quite similar. Littles may need some parental assistance, while older kids will be able to complete these projects independently.
Quality Projects the Kids Will Want to Keep
These crafts are made of quality materials such as foam, pool noodles, and plastic. When complete, these projects are meant to be used. We have tried other free craft programs and the projects are typically fun for the short-term but thrown away shortly after. These crafts are usable. Our daughter’s crafts include a pool noodle pumpkin pal, flamingo glasses, and a cute door hanger. This month, the kids made a Thanksgiving turkey table decoration they can be proud of. You really won’t want to miss next month’s project if you are a Lego fan. December 14th, the kids will have the opportunity to make a Lego snowman! For our bookworms, January will be bookmarks!
How the Program Works
On the second Saturday of each month from 11 am until noon Jc Penney staff put out the crafts for kids. Typically, there is a choice of at least two similar projects. In July, my daughter could have opted for either flamingo or parrot glasses. Last month, there was a choice between a pumpkin or a scarecrow. Don’t forget to take a lanyard and a button. There will be a new button each month, and after 6 buttons your child will receive a special medallion.
